They've been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stilt houses constructed as they were 6000 years ago. We travelled from Canton Zurich, crossing Lake Constance by ferry and arrived in time for the next tour around the village. It started with a diorama presentation showing the archaeological discovery of the artefacts, then the story of the reconstruction. This was followed by a guided tour along the raised board walk to the clusters of houses. It pays to have a smattering of German to understand the tour at its best, but even with our very limited vocab we grasped the story and joined the children in the interactive handling of replicas of stone and bronze-age implements.
