After an exhausting week in Sennen Cove surfing with the grand children (4 x all under 11 years), we waved them all off and took ourselves to Penzance for some well earned rest and relaxation. Our base was the Artist Residence in Chapel Street, opposite the Turk’s Head. A smaller ‘boutique’ hotel with a decent restaurant close to the heart of interesting PZ.
Our programme of relaxation included a couple of spells at the excellent outdoor swimming pool on the seafront where you can bathe in (relatively) warm seawater and watch the fishing boats come in across Mount’s Bay into Newlyn. An excellent cafe- great cakes and a real welcome.
We also drove to Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens and took in a gallery there. It is a very special place- well worth a visit, if only to use the excellent cafe/restaurant.
And on to St Ives and the Tate Gallery, and then back towards St Just on the stunning Zennor road- pausing only for a pint at the Gurnards Head (Treen) – another special place. So, batteries recharged we are now back home planning next year’s return.
