There comes a point when you are so at ease at a hotel, that it is like home. This is how we feel at Pedn Olva. The practicalities are all on point; the superb food, the comfortable room and public areas, the excellent bathroom etc. But two things are outstanding, the truly wonderful staff and the quirky nature of the hotel itself. Because it is built into the rock itself, the shape and access are very different to most hotels. From every room and all the public areas there are spectacular views. There are several roof terraces, all with their own characters. Going up to one is like ascending to the deck of a yacht. Very laid back and friendly, the staff team, from Manager to housekeeping were of a standard that would grace any hotel at any level. I admire the motivation that the manager has instilled in this brilliant team. It is hard to describe the volume of the surf sounds when the tide is in, never disturbing but calming and soothing like a lullaby.
A short walk down a picture postcard lane brings you into St. Ives itself. Because of the tree cover, gulls cannot access this lane and it is a haven of small birds and birdsong.
Apart from a lift (impossible because of the architecture) this hotel lacks nothing that would be wanted for a totally comfortable, stress-free holiday.
The bottom line is, we are booking again for 2020, we can think of nowhere better.
