I was lucky enough to win a Twinkling Thames Cruise aboard the Waverley Paddle Steamer from Graves End to Tower Pier and one night bed and breakfast in the Paddington Hilton in the Silver Travel advisor Prize draw. The prize was provided by Just Go holidays. We chose to make our own way to the hotel. It was my first experience of a Hilton hotel as I normally prefer budget hotels. The hotel was good but I did not think it was exceptional. Bar prices were very steep £4.00 for a coffee and £8.00 for a glass of wine.
Just Go holidays had organised the weekend away very well. We were taken to Gravesend where we got on the Waverly. We chose to have a meal on board and sat in the dining room eating curry as we passed Tilbury docks. When we neared London we went up on the deck and enjoyed a commentary on the sites we were passing. The Thames barrage looked particularly impressive from the water. I was also able to spot the Greenwich observatory, the Cutty Sark, the millennium dome, Canary wharf and the Shard. Tower bridge had to be raised to let us pass underneath which made us feel particularly important.
The only problem was the weather which was wet and very cold. I would like to thank Silver Travel Advisor and Just Go travel for giving us the chance to make this trip.
