“Ormskirk Market”:http://www.westlancs.gov.uk/leisure-recreation/visit-west-lancashire/ormskirk-market.aspx takes place in the centre of the pedestrianized shopping around the Clock Tower. It is an old market and can be dated back to 1286! There are quite a few parking lots in the surrounding area so you don’t have far to carry your purchases.
One of my cousins lives near Ormskirk and often goes to the Saturday morning market (it is on Thursday as well). One weekend this spring my aunt, her son and I decided to meet up with my cousin and her family at the market and check it out. My cousin had been raving about the gingerbread stall; it is a close rival to the wonderful gingerbread in Grasmere. There are some different flavours but I think I prefer the traditional. Take it home and warm it up a little and enjoy! Maybe sometime I’ll be there for the Gingerbread Festival in July.
As I had already bought some gingerbread, I resisted the temptation to sample something from the wonderful looking bakery stall. The cakes looked delicious; perhaps next time. We did though take a coffee and waffle break at “Shake It Up”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review?id=176511 and to escape the pouring rain.
Oh, yes. There are also a number of stalls for fresh vegetables, meat and fish as one would expect at a market as well as flowers, household items and clothing – about 100 stalls in total. An enjoyable way to spend a morning, despite the weather.
