Just got back from a short cruise on the Oriana – our third cruse on this ship. Previously, we have been on A deck and C deck. This time we were on F deck, Room 104. We were the last room on the corridor at the front of the ship. Not a particularly great room compared to the ones we had had before but for a 4 night cruise it was okay. However, we were woken at about 6.30 in the morning by the most awful noise. The whole cabin was vibrating. I turned to my husband and said, ‘What the hell is that noise’. It was scary. The noise lasted for 45 minutes to an hour. We soon found out that the room is the closest to the engines and the anchor. We complained several times over the next two days. We were given a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates. To be honest, in my sleep deprived state (we had been awoken at 0415 and again at 0615 on the morning we arrived in Amsterdam – once for the locks in the canal system and again during docking) I was in no mood for to celebrate anything with Champagne. The person we were complaining to must get the same complaints from passengers in this room on every cruise. We paid over £1,000 for the cruise. No-one should have to put up with that sort of noise. When I said I would be complaining in the very strongest terms after the holiday we were moved to a cabin on C deck. So if you are allocated room F104 on the Oriana – you have been warned!!
