If you’re looking for a good Montreal style bagel but can’t get there, a visit to “OKO Bagels”:https://www.okobagels.com/ in Oakville will hold you over until you’re able to get to Montreal. These are honey-water boiled bagels that are then cooked in a wood fired oven. I had the chance to try them out last year and they were great. All the ingredients are fresh and sandwiches are made from scratch.
Most people stop in to pick up a bag of bagels or order take out but there are a few tables where you can sit in and enjoy a bagel sandwich and that’s what a friend and I did. It was early morning after the children’s school run and we stopped in for breakfast. You pick the bagel you want from the selection that have been freshly made that morning. I’m always partial to a sesame seed bagel. There are varied flavours of cream cheese or you can choose from the various fillings for the sandwiches from avocados to figs to smoked salmon. I had the aptly named breakfast bagel with egg, bacon and cheddar cheese and it was very tasty.
They’re open from 8-4 every day except Sunday when they close at 3:00 pm. They also now have a location in Hamilton.
