I know this is meant to be a travel site but in these times of lockdown due to Corona Virus I thought I’d take you on a tour of my garden, it’s as far as I can be travelling at the moment. It’s no Kew Gardens, but I love it.
We start with the patio – built by my sons 20 years ago when I went on a hockey tour to Germany. I have window boxes on the ground under the kitchen window, soon I’ll be planting Night Scented Stocks in them to add fragrance to my summer evenings.
On here I also have a small plastic greenhouse, currently bursting at the seems (literally as well as figuratively) with plants I’ve grown from seed – tomatoes; squash; pumpkin; courgette; purple sprouting broccoli; cauliflower; lobelia; aster; climbing French beans; and runner beans- all waiting to go in the garden once fear of frost is over. Plus there’s geraniums and Bizzie Lizzie that I’ve grown from tiny plug plants. These are waiting to go into my pots.
Yes my patio has lots of pots that hopefully will be a riot of colour in the summer from the little plants in my greenhouse and various over wintered fuchsias. Sadly I’m looking for a 2nd hand metal patio table so just got chairs at the moment.
As we walk along the south facing side I have new fencing completed by my son. The forsythia, daffs and tulips are just finishing. However the roses are just starting to bloom. I’ve also planted some new roses and Hibiscus so I hope they’ll be pretty later. The Hibiscus remind me of holidays to Greek Islands and The Canaries.
Next we have blackcurrant, redcurrant, and raspberry bushes as well as a conference pear, Victoria plum and cheery trees. On past a few more bluebells and grape hyacinths to more currant bushes, strawberries and my veg plot. Currently I have broad beans, peas, beetroot, radish, spinach, rainbow chard, leeks and onions in it and am still digging where the plants from the greenhouse will go.
At the top is my apple tree….not the best cropper but the apples are tasty. Then I have grass all the way to the patio with lilac, fuchsias, bluebells and bushes. On the patio is a brick built BBQ and logs for my fire next winter tidily cut and piled up.
That’s it folks. 🙂 You’ve had the Grand Tour 🙂
