My husband and I have recently returned from a wonderful holiday in Norway. It was booked through Taber Holidays. We had 4 nights in Oslo – a very interesting city, plenty to see and do. One of the highlights was seeing real Viking ships from the 10th century! Another was visiting Henrik Ibsen’s museum and apartment. Interesting architecture in Oslo – old and new. Then we did the Norway in a Nutshell journey from Oslo to Bergen. This involved a train from Oslo to Myrdal and then on the famous Flamsbana Railway (the steepest railway in Europe) down the mountain to a lovely little village called Flam on the edge of a fjord. We then had 2 nights in Flam at the Fretheim Hotel, which was excellent – location, food, comfort, friendliness and helpfulness of staff. We spent our whole day there exploring – walked to a waterfall and visited the village church – small, wooden church. Its walls were painted with pictures. The next day we went on a boat, along 2 fjords to the village of Gudvangen where we got a bus to Voss. Part of the bus journey was along the old post road which included 13 hairpin bends!! Wonderful views. Then from Voss we went on the train to Bergen. Had 3 nights in Bergen. A very attractive city with plenty of water around it. One of the highlights is Bryggen – the painted wooden warehouses and tenements that belonged to the Hanseatic League in the 1200 – 1600s.
Norway is very expensive but we had half board at 2 of the hotels, all the transport was prepaid and we also prepaid for an Oslo Pass and Bergen Pass which gave us free/discounted access to most museums, attractions and travel on local transport.
I would certainly recommend Norway – it is a very beautiful country, food was very good, accommodation was very good, language is not a problem as most people speak English etc. We were happy with the services we had from Taber Holidays.
