Newmillerdam is on the A61 Barnsley road 3.6 miles south of Wakefield, it has 2 car parks one at each side of the Dam, both are park and display (I think Sundays are free) blue badges can be used. In summer months you will find ice cream vendors in 1 car Park and by the other carp ark.
The dam is the lake and the walk or jog, or cycle is 1.8 miles you can also go off the main path to other parts of the area. The wildlife is fantastic in the woodland grey squirrels, birds of all species, Swans ducks geese and other species. There is plenty of seating round the Dam, some are benches some are logs. You will come to a wooden path across the lake if you don’t want to go to the right end. Plenty of seats on the other side as is the old boathouse, which the stone building is partly submerged in the lake, but you go up not down, it looks lovely when the sun is on it. Now there are toilets as you exit the dam 20p a time There are cleaned regular, but I went in once and that was enough, but if you pass the toilet block there is a small cafe, that serve a good cup of tea and slice of cake (and clean toilet), people in there are very nice. Next door to that there is The Dam carvery where you are charged to park in there, but think you get it back when you go in to eat. Now if you are in the main car park you will have seen a pub that’s a nice place to eat, and over the road from the Dam there is a cafe usually open until about 3pm. Going back into the main car park there is a very nice place, in the stone building on your left as you walk into the car park.
