I have a real aversion to paper cups and plates and so imagine my delight in finding a diner just a few steps from Central Park which provides real china plates, mugs and proper cutlery often lacking in many other New York outlets.. A family run business it has been around for many years and is very popular with the locals. It has a classic diner feel to it and NIcholas told me that they had made every effort to give it that special look using authentic furniture . There is a great very competitively priced menu during the week with endless coffee and plenty of specials at the weekend. My huge ‘Lumberjack’ came with pancakes 2 eggs and a choice of bacon, ham or sausage. Providing huge portions this diner has a wonderful atmosphere and is certainly one of my top spots in New York City. Particularly good if you are staying close to Central Park it is on the corner of 70th Street, look for the illuminated sign. The staff, who are great characters interact with customers really well and it is a cool place to pick up some local gossip. I can thoroughly recommend Neil’s if you are in New York Just ask for Nicholas, who will really look after you. Do however get there early to secure your table. Price wise they have some excellent deals. .
They also have a take way service..
