We go on several cruises a year, including with Royal Caribbean, but this was the first time we had been on the Southampton based Anthem of the Seas. We were just so impressed, from the moment we boardws. What a ship! although it has over 5000 passengers, it never seems crowded. even the dreaded breakfast scrum in the Windjammer was well managed and it was usually possible to get a seat outside at the rear of the ship. The enetertainment venues were first class, but the best had to be the 270 lounge, which was like nothing I’d ever seen before. Hard to explain – you’ll need to go there to fully understand what it was like.
There was a Beatles tribute band when we were on the ship and I have to confess I saw them play 5 different times in 4 different venues.
We had opted for Mytime dining. This worked very well, especially as you could prebook your table and time on the app, which is far superior to the MSC app. The food was excellent and the service was good.
We were sailing to the Canaries, so had several sea days. I was impressed that I was able to secure a sun lounger every time, and I am NOT a “get up at 6 to book a bed” type of person.
Another favourite memory was time spent in the adult only Solarium area.
The only drawback is nothing to do with the ship – it’s the expense of travelling to Southampton from Scotland. it’s more expensive than flying to Spain or even further away! but worth it, to go on this wonderful ship.
