Just returned from a visit to the MS Koningsdam, at Portland cruise port, on the 20th September. What a superb experience – which I would have missed, had it not been advertised in the Silver Travel Advisor email newsletter. (Big thanks to Debbie for arranging the booking !)
The Koningsdam is the newest Holland America Line ship, launched earlier this year. As a great fan of cruising, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to go aboard and explore the ship – especially as the visit included a superb four course lunch in the main dining room onboard. And all for only £10pp!
What a superb ship! Really luxurious, with beautiful chic staterooms, stylish bars and restaurants, a wonderful state-of-the-art theatre, fantastic modern and elegant decor and furnishings throughout, a spa, and a superbly equipped gym. A very interesting presentation followed lunch, explaining the history and ethos (premium brand) of HAL, which (surprisingly) included no element of selling future cruises. I guess that would not be necessary, as the ship so easily sells itself.
I am not sure if a cruise onboard in the future will be within my means, but if not, it was a wonderful experience to sample what this ship has to offer. At our table for lunch, there were a couple of travel agents, researching for work, some people who had undertaken many cruises, and a lady who had never been on board a cruise ship, so the visit had something to offer everyone! I can certainly recommend the experience.
