We decided to go to Edinburgh for a couple of nights for my birthday, particularly as Capercaillie, my favourite band, were playing there on the actual day. We stayed for two nights in the Mercure – I was a bit apprehensive as we had an awful couple of nights in the Mercure Glasgow City and were worried it would not be up to scratch. However it was excellent – our was spacious and comfortable and best of all had a great view over Princes Gardens to the Castle , really stunning. Both mornings we were also escorted to a table by the window for breakfast, again with a wonderful inspiring view. Breakfast was fine, nice fruit and lovely french yoghurt as well as the usual cooked offering.
We spent the Sunday in the day at a great antique fair at Ingleston with a courtesy bus from the city centre so we were able to use public transport for the trip, very useful in a city where parking is not very available. The concert was wonderful and we had some really nice meals also – see review of Ghillie Dhu.
All in all a very enjoyable break and one I would be happy to repeat.
