We have visited this little restaurant many times over the years. It has never failed to give us a wonderful local home cooked meal at an excellent price. The 3-course lunch costs €10.50 including bread wine and water. You are usually welcomed by the elderly owner in his local costume. The restaurant has several little nooks and crannies and you can book an intimate little one for a romantic meal for two or one for a party of 8 or so. It is cosy in winter and has a large terrace outside for good weather, where live music is often performed. There is a little children’s play caravan. There are examples of local art on display and a very amusing skeleton orchestra on the piano. The ladies “throne” room is very interesting. The menu features many of the local Emporda dishes such as slow cooked calves cheek, rice dishes, chick peas with spinach and salt cod, fish soup. Many grilled meats are offered cooked over an open grill.Today I enjoyed 12 huge prawns sautéed with garlic and parsley – messy but delicious. These were at a supplement of only €3.50 but well worth it. The calves cheek was meltingly soft and flavoursome with braised carrots, potatoes and onions. The dessert was unusual this time : a cup of hot chocolate with two small pastries to dunk. Alternative desserts included home make cake, strawberry ice cream and fresh fruit. Coffee is extra. A different more extensive menu is offered at weekends at €20.50. Service is very efficient and friendly. Children are catered for. There is a car park adjacent to the restaurant.Free WIFI. Go early during high season as it is very popular and near to the coastal resorts. www.maspi.net
