If you like Christmas but would like it warmer than the UK – this is the place. very friendly people. excellent hotels and great food and restaurants. Funchal is brilliant at Christmas – they have a Christmas market, lots of Christmas trees, lights and decorations. School choirs sing carols in the centre of town in many languages. Walking is really pleasant along the seafront. For more adventurous try the levada walks up in the hills – guided and relatively flat with great scenery.
