The M’D Botley Park Hotel and Spa is a bit out of the way but, as we were here for a business gathering over three days that didn’t really impact on our visit.
Reception was efficient and friendly, as were all subsequent dealings with staff – with the exception of the room service telephone number(s) going unanswered when we tried to get the ‘fresh milk’ that was stated (on a card in the room) to be available for the tea and coffee making facility.
Meals were excellent – including leg of lamb falling off the bone and very tasty Thai fish cakes. Buffet breakfast included Stornoway black pudding. Service in the restaurant was pleasant and efficient.
The room was spacious and included two club-armchairs in addition to the desk chair. Main drawback in the room was a lack of bedside power sockets for recharging mobile phones when in bed/asleep. The WiFi was of variable performance and the local O2 mobile phone signal was almost non-existent within the hotel, resulting in our not getting a particular message until some hours after it was sent.
Some room items (like the windows) were showing their age, and I was briefly scalded, twice, in the shower – thankfully it was very fleeting and the water did go back to normal before I had time to jump clear.
Plenty of communal bar and sitting areas, within the hotel and the associated ‘Spa’ area – including two outdoor ‘picnic’ areas.
The conference facilities were extensive so could probably cater for most types of gathering. We didn’t make use of any ‘Spa’ facilities.
Bar prices were similar to airport hotels – too high – but typical of any place that has a ‘captive audience’
