I'd never visited this hotel before, so it was a little chancy as it was a five star (didn't know what the ambience or the food would be like), but was very pleasantly surprised. It is a Lopesan group hotel, and the theme is that of Africa, so you walk through a jungle and hear animal noises as you enter. Everything from reception to household staff was excellent. The food was to die for, never have I had such variety (we had half board) and this applied to breakfast as well as dinner. Evening entertainment was good (normally choice of two acts) and they have the football on in the downstairs bar. there is daytime entertainment in the form of organised games, darts, petanque, water polo etc. Wi-Fi is available, but to be honest I didn't think much of the signal for the free internet access, although there is paid access downstairs. There are a number of pools and choice of restaurants/ bar meals for lunch, so you could spend all your time in the hotel, but we didn't. The main promenade is five minutes stroll away, so you can walk up and down and eat in a different restaurant each night if you don't want the hotel food, but, quite frankly, we're glad we ate in the hotel. Played golf at the hotel course (at a discount) and I would recommend this Meloneras course as opposed to the Maspalomas course ( for the serious golfer) as it is nicer and more varied than just 'up and down'. Buses to other resorts, (Puerto Rico, Playa de los Ingles) are handy and there are plenty of bars, supermarkets, shops, and even a Casino!. Would go back.
