My husband and I went to Liverpool during the last weekend in July to see the Giants Spectacular.
Every year or so, a French troupe visit the city with Giant Puppets which are paraded throughout the city, operated by machines.
We had seen the event on the TV before but had always wanted to actually go there and stand among the crowds and see the giant puppets to soak in the atmosphere.
The city was heaving. At least a hundred thousand people had visited the city to see this spectacular show. No matter where you stood, you got a great view of the Giants walking around. This year in particular, they had 3 giants – a grandmother, a little girl, and a dog. Each puppet entertained the crowds: the grandmother walked and also had a wheelchair to sit in. The dog did tricks, raising his paws, kneeling, and drinking from a bucket, and the little girl did her exercises and also sat on a bus for part of the show. We got some great photographs and also great memories.
The show is run to a set schedule so you know which streets the giants will be visiting at certain times. The French Troupe who run it are very skilled indeed.
This is a fantastic event, totally free of charge, and for people of all ages and abilities. If you ever get a chance to go and see it, you will not be disappointed.
