On the August bank holiday 2022 Lincoln city was once again host to the International Asylum Steampunk Festival after an enforced hiatus due to the pandemic. The cobbled streets by the castle and cathedral were transformed with flamboyant feathers, corsets, goggles and extraordinary top hats. This fun event celebrates an imaginary steam-powered world with some startling innovations. Various experiences took place from Wacky Races, Tea Duelling, fantastic parades and lots of market stalls selling some amazing ephemera.

We have been before and it was great to meet up with some familiar faces in very unfamiliar costumes. This year however, I was starting to feel the effect of walking up and down Steep Hill – my arthritis was really beginning to bite. When we go next year, I shall definitely be taking the bus!

I do recommend this annual event in Lincoln. There are many hotels, restaurants and gift shops – plenty of thing to delight the tourist.
