A rare holiday to France saw us flying to Lourdes with Ryanair, as our friends live nearby. It was Steve’s 60 th and lots of us stayed for the party and beyond. They asked us to meet at Lake Baudreix, near Nay, for lunch, we got there early in our rental car. In time to take a short walk beforehand with views of the magnificent broad river Pau which tumbled rapidly over boulders. We had seen the river in Nay, and Lourdes, towns nearby, and it looks so clean and blue, wild flowers at the side, and on this walk it was magnificent amongst the flowering trees. But the lake is the most stunning, turquoise water overlooked by the snow topped mountains of the Pyrenees. At the side of the lake there is a beach and water jump/slides which is supervised, and on the other side is the nautical teleski where our young friends practised water skiing on boards pulled by electric ropes which took them all around the lake, some did fancy jumps and twirls. Anyway we finally all sat down for lunch at the wonderful panoramic restaurant, with views to die for, on a sunny warm day. The food was tasty too, and to say there was seventeen of us it really was a fast service cooked to perfection, my husband raved over his scallops in sauce and my fish was good. All washed down with wine and water. We sat on some viewing seats and marvelled at the antics on the lake afterwards. There are lodges to hire at lake Baudriex and camping. I would recommend it. The toilets are clean too. Its not far from Lourdes airport and stunning Pyrenees landscape and mountain villages such as Saint Savin which are worth visiting too. The week flew by.
