Not usually advertised as a holiday destination (except in winter), Laax is a small town near Switzerland’s oldest city Chur. The beauty of this corner of Canton Graubunden is that there are numerous opportunities for the ‘outdoor minded’ visitor, such as trips on the
spectacular River Rhine c/o Swiss River Adventures of nearby Ilanz. There are also many (well signposted) walks of all grades to suit everybody. In Laax itself, there is the mini resort of Laaxsee with activities to please everyone, with boating, paddle boarding, volley ball, public BBQs (grillplatz). The Swiss are very family orientated so everything is geared to suit all. This place is well worth a visit. People think Switzerland is expensive and covered in snow, but in summer it is beautiful and temperatures can reach the mid 30s. Also, being only 19km from the beautiful city of Chur, there is the opportunity to catch the wonderful Glacier Express, one of the world’s most spectacular rail journeys. One of those ‘once in a lifetime’ experiences.
