We arrived at La Menantelliere to be wowed by the surrounding countryside, a patchwork of fields and orchards. Although the gite is remote, the directions given were very clear and we able to locate it with out any problems. The gite was stunning. It's located next to the owner's property which enjoys a huge garden, and the most amazing views . Josie, the owner was really friendly and showed us our gite. It really was beautiful. The main living area was open planned, with beautifully pointed natural stone walls, beamed and wooden ceiling going into the eaves. The lighting had subtle up lighters set in the beams. There was a fully equipped kitchen with gas hob, an electric double oven, lots of pots and pans, and ample crockery and glasses. The lounge area had a comfortable settee and chair which were located by the French door where those amazing views could be enjoyed. It even had a free view tv which showed English channels so no excuse to miss out on favourite programmes whilst abroad!!! The property had two double bedrooms, one with a double bed, and the other with two singles. Both rooms were decorated lovingly, with beams, gorgeous pictures and wall hangings and Cath Kidston bed linen. A lovely touch. The bathroom had a large shower cubicle with lush power shower, a good start to the day. Outside the gite was a decked area which was located through the French doors, here you could sit and take in the rustic French farmland beyond. There were also sun beds where you could enjoy the warm French sun. Every little attention to detail was there. We had wifi, a welcome arrival pack full of goodies like wine, fruit juice, bread, tea, coffee, milk, and some Scrummy homemade jam. Yum!! Because we visited in early September, we didn't need heating, but for people arriving later in the year, a wood burner was insitu, and would have been wonderful to enjoy on a colder evening. There were loads of interesting places to visit whilst there. We had leaflets in the gite to look at, and of course the wifi was very useful too. We were amazed at the numerous medieval villages and towns all in close proximity to the gite, so we were never short of things to do. We tended to eat out at lunchtimes in local restaurants, and being French, the meals were great. As you can tell we had a wonderful holiday, and would certainly recommend it for anyone wanting a tranquil break in the fabulous French countryside.
