Whist we were staying at Glenmor, friends recommended a visit to Jon and Fernanda’s Restaurant in nearby Auchterarder. We were very impressed. Dishes created by Chef Jon were universally splendid whist service provided by his wife Fernanda was friendly but discrete.
We were a party of three, me, my wife and her sister. For starter I chose Seared King scallops in garlic butter with haggis croquettes and grain mustard hollandaise sauce; the ladies both opted for twice baked stilton cheese souffle with creamed mushrooms and fresh herbs. My scallop dish was excellent and generous without being over facing. The soufles (as recommended by our friends) were absolutely superb. For main course I selected a special – barbary duck breast on a bed of celeriac with with damson sauce. My wife chose medallions of Scottish beef fillet with creamed spinach, buttered carrots, fries and a peppercorn sauce and her sister, supreme of Scottish Salmon with crispy tempura calamari, red Thai curry and coconut milk sauce with steamed asparagus and crushed potatoes. Once more, all the dishes were excellent and beautifully presented. We were now quite full so I chose not to have a dessert and even the ladies placed a reduced order for one portion of Jon’s Sticky toffee pudding with hot salted caramel sauce and cookies and cream and ice cream to share.
Whilst we were enjoying our coffees, Jon came out from the kitchen and chatted briefly with his guests. I have enjoyed this friendly convention in France, but never before in the UK. It completed a superb evening in a very pleasant manner.
