For those visit the Niagara area there is a better alternative to bustle of Niagara Falls is Niagara on the Lake just 20 minutes drive from the falls. On the coast of Lake Ontario the small town hosts a large number of small hotels and guest houses supported by quality resturants. It's just like being in a New England town, only better. Just minutes from the centre is a small guest house the John's Gate. Surprise it is on the corner of John and Gate streets. The host Meheroo has run the place for 15 years and it is a little gem. The breakfast is outstanding. Make sure you have an hour to get through the courses. You have access to a guest lounge which is well appointed. The 3 rooms are super and are spotless. Parking is available. We have stayed there twice and we will be back. Great value.

Niagara on the Lake golf course is in the same road. Oldest course in North America and they hire clubs.
