We searched for an apartment to cater for my wife and myself and our married son and his wife.
We were looking for something on Cote d'Azur, with accommodation that could provide privacy as well as shared facilities.
The apartment consists of two bedrooms on two floors with a kitchen/sitting room and en suite bathrooms. One bedroom has a private secluded balcony. It is accessed by a narrow staircase which is a problem for elderly/disabled. The apartment has,as they say, all mod cons.
We found this at an attractive price in the very French coastal resort of Sanary Sur Mer, a few kilometres from Toulon and around 50 kilometres from Marseille.
It is not easy to get to because we flew to Marseille, took a train to Ollioulles then taxi to Sanary. This is part of the attraction. The resort is not used by major package tour operators so there is a very local French atmosphere in the harbour area.
The apartment is situated in the old former fishing village where the small streets are too narrow for cars and are filled with small local shops, restaurants and galleries.
It is impossible not to become involved in village life and we quickly made friends in the boulangerie, cafes, shops, and even meeting locals at the daily market and in the lovely shaded areas dotted throughout the village.
The village has a working harbour for small fishing boats (pointus) who land and sell their daily catch. There is a daily fruit and vegetable market and a large weekly market which attracts visitors from the surrounding area.
With a lovely temperate micro climate it is the location for the ideal French experience.
Try it and you will be enchanted and will return again and again.
