We have been holidaying at the Platja d'Or in Alcudia Mallorca for about 10 years. We travel with friends and the object of this holiday is simply to relax in the sun with good company and no stress. The hotel has three stars and is pretty basic but perfectly adequate. It's all inclusive and adult only which is perfect if you enjoy a quiet read around the pool with no games or splashing. Some reviewers don't give the food very good reviews, but in my experience, if you eat the fresh salads, breads and the daily fish dish, you can't go wrong. I love the little sugar dusted Mallorquin pastries dipped in honey at breakfast. The rooms are a bit dull (brown bed covers anyone?) but the bathrooms are excellent. If you book, ask for a sea view room. The beach is accessed via a pine copse and is approximately a two minute stroll from the hotel. It's a fabulous beach with plenty of shaded pines to set your stall under. In terms of location, it's a 45 minute walk into the Old Town (or 10 euro in a taxi) which is well worth a visit. Avoid Sunday and Thursday if you don't like markets and queuing for a taxi back. Alcudia port is a leisurely 25 stroll along the seafront. There are lots of great restaurants to try in the port and it has a lovely early evening vibe – great for people watching. The hotel is available with Thomson but we usually book separate flights with Monarch as they offer a better in flight experience. A taxi to the resort is quite expensive at e80 but between 4 of us, not bad and better than suffering the bus!
