Before the pandemic struck I was the lucky winner in a competition I entered with Closer magazine. My prize was an overnight stay for 2 people with a three course meal, wine and breakfast the following morning at the Hotel Camponile. Almost 18 months later I along with my husband was able to use the prize. We arrived at the Hotel mid morning and following refreshments booked a taxi from the hotel into Birmingham centre, the journey cost £7 (our return taxi journey back to the hotel was £7.40). A couple of hours were then spent enjoying a walk through the Chinatown area, window shopping, the outdoor market.. We particularly enjoyed the huge indoor market where they sell a vast variety of different fish, meat, vegetables . I can honestly say I have not seen so much choice anywhere else.
After a quick bite to eat we then headed to the Birmingham Hippodrome for the matinee performance of Birmingham Royal Ballet -Romeo and Juliet. The performance was socially distanced every other row was left empty and there was a seat left vacant between each booking party. The performance was spectacular, the music score was by Prokofiev and the dancing and passion throughout was wonderful. We were so glad we treated ourselves and I have definitely fallen in love with ballet.
Following the ballet we had a taxi back to our Hotel.
The Hotel is situated in Chester Street, Aston 1km from the City centre. We travelled by car to the Hotel. The Hotel has plenty of parking and does have some disabled parking bays. The hotel was very modern, clean and the room well equipped with coffee/tea making facilities, hair dryer, free wi-fi, TV, extra pillow . We had a most comfortable stay . The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our evening meal and breakfast were very good and the wine went down a treat. We had a comfortable nights sleep and check out in the morning was very smooth. We enjoyed our 24 hrs in Birmingham.
