The hotel is easily accessible from junction 8 of the M1. There is plenty of level, free parking and we had no problem parking on a Friday afternoon. We received a bubbly welcome from the receptionist Crystal who made sure we knew about the free facilities on offer including the on-site health club (indoor heated pool, sauna and whirlpool and fitness room). We were told about the dining options for breakfast (£11.50pp) and the various options for an evening meal. The meal deal, two courses plus two drinks from the bar at £20pp was already tempting us.
Our room was on the ground floor and easily accessible from reception. I was pleasantly surprised by the £55 double room which was immaculate, dust free and sweet smelling. With crisp white bed linen and towels it didn't take us long to feel at home. The unexpected bonuses included a fridge, trouser press, basic toiletries and plenty of quality tea and coffee.
Unfortunately Wi-Fi was not free but Crystal was pleased to announce that it would be from 1st July (hooray).
We thoroughly enjoyed the evening meal deal further enhanced by the opportunity to watch the tennis live from Wimbledon on a large projected TV in the bar. We went for an evening walk after our meal but unfortunately it wasn't pleasant walking alongside a busy road and we retired early.
Next door to the hotel is a service station with a mini Marks & Spencer and a coffee chain. There was a wide selection of quality groceries and hot food to go (an ideal alternative to breakfast at the hotel). We also stocked up on nibbles for our journey!
The short but very pleasant stay was unfortunately tainted by the very long wait to check out and pay on the Saturday morning. With a deadline to meet I spoke to a member of staff from the restaurant and explained that I would be leaving without paying as a swipe of my credit card had already been taken at check-in. The staff were apologetic and accepted my reason for leaving. Despite this I'd definitely stay at this hotel again, it was on route and good value for money.
