We had a friendly welcome at this relatively new HIX here in Middlesbrough – open only one year and it shows. We had a good, 3rd floor room at the front – no road noise due to effective double glazing. Price was also good. Usual (inclusive) buffet menu (well – a bit better than usual as there was bacon as well as sausage to go with the scrambled egg and beans!). Evening food menu is very limited in size but what we had was tasty and not at all badly priced. The French red was also very nice.
We happened to be there when they were ‘celebrating’ their one-year since opening so enjoyed their hospitality of wine and nibbles in the ‘great room’ – the sitting and eating area for breakfast, bar and evening meals if you stay in. Rooms were all new and modern (to the extent that the door needed a good shove/pull to get it open – felt like an airlock!). Usual limited hanging and shelf space, which was expected. Good big walk-in shower in the bathroom. Room was cleaned promptly every day.
The rooms at the front have a very good outlook over central park – those at the back look over the shopping centre/car park (The hotel is actually most of one side of the Cleveland Shopping Centre – and there are other shopping centres in adjacent blocks).
This was a work visit for me – a relaxing one for #1wife – and it worked 🙂
