What a little gem of a hotel this is, set in the heart of Yorkshire in a small industrial town named Halifax. Whilst the surroundings are not the prettiest in the world, this is a working town; the hotel excels itself in its service and food, cleanliness and sheer quirkiness. There is a main, more formal restaurant serving high quality English food and also a bar serving bar food such as home-made fish and chips.
Apart from the food and service, what makes this hotel so special is the historic value and quirkiness. The hotel is like a rabbit warren with rooms coming off in all directions, every corner turned in the hotel brings new surprises such as log fires, comfy armchairs, stain glass windows and quaint antiquities, oh and don’t forget the resident cat.
The hotel was one of the filming locations of the TV programme ‘Last tango in Halifax’ and had many celebrities staying here, such as the Beatles.
For those enjoy history, the house is located near Shibden Hall and Piece Hall and well within reach of some great Yorkshire walks.
There are 4 family rooms, however, I would say the target audience is over 50s who appreciate good food in a friendly relaxed atmosphere.
