Finding myself stuck in Shrewsbury with no train to get me home, a friendly shop assistant recommended Harvey’s of Fish Street for lunch, and this proved to be an excellent choice.
Just off the main shopping street along a cobbled lane to the corner of Fish Street, the manager is there to greet you so it feels warm and friendly straight away. Clean, modern décor with an interesting menu including a 2-course set lunch for £13.50. A bread selection arrives while you are waiting for the first course supported well by a good Wide River Chenin Blanc at £2.80 for 125ml glass.
Salmon from the set menu was perfectly cooked with a rich creamy sauce and lovely little potatoes. I gave in and chose the date and walnut pudding – a very large portion so a very good choice.
It was a lovely atmosphere, especially on a snowy grey Saturday afternoon, even if you are dining alone. It is a must-visit next time we are in Shrewsbury.
