Visited this island in November. Wonderful place to stay. We flew directly into Hamilton Island from Sydney. You can also get a ferry from Airlie beach but we wanted a quick journey. The flights were with Jetstar and very reasonably priced. There are many accommodation options. We stayed in the Whitsunday apartments. They were able to pick us up from the airport which was handy and only an10 minute journey. The apartments were fantastic. Very large with wonderful views and a good sized balcony. The kitchen was well equipped. There is a well stocked supermarket near the ferry port which you can either walk to or take the free bus to it. There are also a number of bars and restaurants. The apartments are right across from the beach and also have several swimming pools. Hamilton island really is a tropical paradise. There are many other tropical paradise islands. However the great advantage of Hamilton island is that the infrastructure is great. Everything works well and everyone speaks English. Whilst it is often great to go somewhere off the beaten track and have an adventure – this can be a bit stressful if you have any health concerns. There are fantastic day trips to the Great Barrier Reef and other beaches like Whitehaven Bay where you can snorkel. We loved them. The restaurants tend to close a bit earlier than in Europe -sometimes around 9pm so, just bear this in mind.
