The Morrismen were off to visit Guernsey having been invited by their Morris “Belles and Broomsticks”. Some decided to go by Ferry, some by plane but some of us were asked if we would like to go on Stuart’s lovely yacht “Pompey Lass” – a special deal for his friends! So 4 men (2 of them proficient sailors, 2 amateurs) plus us two girls (well over 60’s!). Seemed like a fun plan – sail to Cherbourg Wednesday night then stay there til sail to Guernsey on Friday. Boat packed with goodies, food, bedding, life jackets, warm coats, etc. Off we went but a couple of hours into the journey winds were strong, eventually becoming force 8 which threw us around mercilessly for hours. This was NOT fun – I had bruises to prove it.
After sustenance and shower and sleep in Cherbourg finding a nice restaurant and an even nicer bar, refreshed we sailed off to Guernsey. Thank goodness it was calmer by Friday so all went well.
The rest of the crowd were by this time already there and enjoying the hospitality of the Belles and Broomsticks. dancing and singing.
When we eventually arrived, very weary, we joined in the revelry. Saturday Victory and lots of other groups danced around various sites (a lot in the rain) but Sunday the sun came out and there was dancing all day.
A fun weekend for all but for me if I go again it will be by plane or ferry!
The Pompey Lass is a lovely yacht and I am sure someone out there would have a wonderful time if they chartered it.
