The Greenway Café is based within Standalone farm which is a much loved local farm attraction on the edge of Letchworth Garden City in North Hertfordshire. It’s namesake ‘The Greenway’ is a 13.6 mile circular path around the town used by walkers, runners and cyclists. The café is just a few metres walk off the Greenway between way markers ’36’ and ’37’ and is well signposted (see photo). Although Standalone farm has an entrance fee, users of the Greenway are able to access the café without having to pay the entrance fees. We didn’t know this and thought this information might be useful to other walkers – hence this review.
The café is based in a small building at the entrance to the farm. As the farm is very popular with families the café is often busy. There are plenty of highchairs.
The café sells a simple selection of teas, coffees, soft drinks, sandwiches, crisps, cakes and confectionary to eat in or take away. The day we went there is a special offer for hot drink plus cake for £4 which was good value (see photo). The young staff are friendly and helpful and don’t rush you. The loos are a short walk through the farmyard.
Sharing the same building as the café is a small shop selling toys, puzzles and games with a farmyard theme. If you fancy going into the farm and spending time there, this is the place to buy entrance tickets. Adult tickets cost £7, Seniors £6, children £5.50 and disabled and under twos go free.
The Greenway is wheelchair accessible and there is a large car park attached to the farm. Once you’ve refuelled at the Greenway café you can simply walk a few metres uphill and re-join the path to resume your walk.
