Reasons for trip

Apart from hotels, there are few toilet stops between Callander and Oban. The Green Welly Shop at Tyndrum is probably the best place to break and has good toilets.

It also has a large shop attached to it for the shopaholics as well as a cafe. This is an attractive area although the cake selection was decidedly pedestrian.

The Green Welly Shop is family run so the selection is very different to the ubiquitous ‘mill shops’ belonging to the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group. Prices are higher too. The clothing area is probably best described as ‘county casuals’ although it does have some boots, socks and high performance trousers aimed at the walkers. There is also a very good range of OS Landranger maps.

The gifts are good quality and include preserves, biscuits, sweets, jewellery, whisky as well as funky slippers and hand warmers. Again, they are not cheap.

The filling station sells a basic range of groceries as well as bread, sandwiches, soft drinks and ice creams. It also has a large range of stainless steel Aladdin vacuum flasks and pen knives.

There are picnic tables and seats outside for those who have their own food.
