We timed our visit well, just after the area had been flooded with heavy rain 2 days before. We found the hotel to be warm; comfortable and generally very well maintained. Our booking entitled us to a free afternoon tea however it was in fact just a cream tea when it arrived. Enjoyable nonetheless, I had been expecting the full afternoon tea with sandwiches etc. We had dinner in the bistro that night but that was a disappointment with lacklutsre food more fitting in a cafe. I ordered a goat's chees saled but it was just 2 pieces of cold cheese, straight from the fridge, and a few salad leaves and baby tomatoes drizzled with some dressing. Not at all the standard I had been expecting. Breakfast the next day was excellent however and we had a lovely window table with views over the lawn. Overall we had an very good stay and visited Whitby and Staithes for the day then calling at York on the way home. I would recommend the hotel but not the bistro dining perhaps the restaurant would have been better but we chose to eat in whitby that day instead of risking it.
