This was my first time cruising with Fred Olsen and I could immediately see why ‘Fred’ has such a loyal customer base.
Pre departure was seamless – everything arrived when it should despite being a very late booking.
Boarding was slick and efficient and our ‘totally obscured window cabin’ was a surprise as it was only obscured for the bottom 3rd of the window – by the top of a lifeboat. Otherwise a good view.
The ship was just what my husband and I like about cruising – not too big, a traditional design and spotless and sparkling.
The crew couldn’t do enough and were always smiling.
Food was mostly very good – just a couple of meals that didn’t come up to expectations but if something is not to your liking they will quickly replace with another choice.
The speciality restaurants are well worth the small surcharge and we had delicious meals at both Colours & Tastes – Asian fusion, and Vasco – Indian.
We didn’t take any excursions but explored on our own as had visited the islands of the Canaries, Madeira and Lisbon in the past.
Evening entertainment was varied and of a high standard.
We have returned home to research another cruise on Balmoral as soon as funds allow!
