Reasons for trip

Earlier this week my sister and I attended a performance of Tartuffe at the Festival Theatre at the “Stratford Festival”:https://visitstratford.ca/events/stratford-festival-live-viewing-party-apr-15/. It was set in the current day but that did not alter the satirical message from Molière’s original. In fact, given the antics of the leader of the nation to the south of Canada, it was quite fitting. They even included some of said leader’s catch phrases and tweets, much to the hilarity of the audience.

The play is on until October 13, 2017 so if you are in Stratford, Ontario do check it out. I had wanted to see Tartuffe because Tom Rooney plays the title character and I always enjoy his performances. He does not disappoint as he portrays a disgustingly sly and manipulative Tartuffe.

We went to the matinee show at 2:00 pm. There are two lovely balconies where you can catch some rays during the intermission, have a drink or ice cream and take in the lovely gardens below.

I have heard from relatives who have seen many of the plays this season that there hasn’t been a bad one in the bunch. A very successful season this year for the new Artistic Director Antoni Cimolino!

There are many ticket options on the festival website and deals on day trips if you are staying in Toronto. We purchased $29 tickets (works out to $38 with all the taxes and fees) – you do not know which seat you are assigned until after the purchase is made. Having said that, there isn’t a bad seat in this theatre.
