I recently searched for and booked a flight to Washington Dulles USA using the www.momondo.co.uk website. I was looking for an economy flight from Manchester and found a flight for £317.01 with an agency called faregeek. Just before booking it I did a search to find out why it was so inexpensive as it was a scheduled flight. The reason it was so cheap was that it was flying on a new ticket called basic economy. Flying basic economy means that one can only carry a small light backpack which has to be stowed under the seat in front of where one is sat and there are one or two fare restriction which are spelled out on the United Airlines website, as United was one of the airlines I flew on, on my flight to Dulles (airport code IAD). I’d never heard of the agency faregeek but did a quick search which looked okay, so took a chance and booked with them. Because I only pack what I need and being a bloke that isn’t a lot when I’m travelling and carrying, as I always stay in Hostelling International hostels, so jeans and a T or sweat shirt never makes one look or feel out of place!
All went well. I was booked to fly on October 10th 2017 from Manchester with Flybe to Amsterdam and United Airlines from Amsterdam to Dulles, which was a first for me as I usually fly to Washington National/Reagan (airport code DCA). The Flybe flight included nothing and a plastic cup of tea was I think £2.40. Whilst the United flight served a good meal with tea or coffee and the usual glass of red or white wine or can of beer if one wanted it, I’m teetotal by the way, so got a can of beer for the guy in the seat next to me. The return flight was on October 19th/20th with Brussels Airlines from Dulles to Brussels and Brussels to Manchester. Brussels Airlines served much the same as United on the flight across the pond and a cup of tea or coffee was also extra on the flight from Brussels to Manchester. All in all I was very satisfied and may book the same when I return to the USA next year.
