At the Luxury Travel Show last year I was lucky enough to win a 2 nights stay at Es Reveller Arts Resort in Mallorca. At first, as flights weren’t included, I wasn’t sure I wanted to use the prize but having looked at it on line I decided it might be my only chance to stay somewhere so luxurious and different. The hotel is 3.4 kms from Campos, a dusty little town with a couple of interesting churches. My sister and I booked a cheap Easy Jet flight and three nights in a much cheaper hotel in Palma (Amic Horizonte – a separate review covers our stay there). So we made a 5 night holiday out of the prize.
Palma is lovely and we enjoyed our stay there then we caught a No. 46 bus from our hotel to the bus terminal Placa d’Espanya . We then took the 502 bus to Campos. It was less than an hour and it only cost 5 euros each. We had to get a taxi (10 euros) from Campos to Es Revellar. It is quite remote and most of the guests come by car. As the electric gates swung open we saw a beautiful hacienda style building ahead of us. The drive is covered in beautiful bright flowers and doted amongst these flowers we began to notice the odd statue or fountain. In fact Es Revellar is just like a living outdoor museum. The proprietor Roberto and his wife Rosabel believe that you should see art within nature and not in some stuffy museum setting. Rosabel showed us the prehistoric cave that is on the site. It is full of African art that her husband has collected and is very unique and unusual. In one of the hotel’s offices are 9 Picasso tapestries. Their creation is depicted in a wall of photos under the tapestries. That has to be the most expensive décor I have ever seen in a working office!
Our prize was a junior garden suite and Albert, the lovely receptionist/waiter/bar man took our cases and showed us to our room. Although quite dark inside (as you would expect a hacienda to be) each wall was dotted with original art, the living room area was quite luxurious and the beds wonderfully comfortable. We also had our own front terrace with a sofa and chairs and we could enjoy a glass of wine here before dinner. In fact it was so large that we could have probably entertained all the staff and other guests as well! The hotel only has 15 rooms and no children are allowed.
Across from our room was the swimming pool with a fountain of two sculptured faces at one end. A walk around the grounds disclosed more art, fountains, African statues, large Henry Moore style sculptures, totem poles and modern sculptures made out of scrap metal. Too many things to list but all of them extraordinary. Some of them were obviously worth a lot of money and others were made very cheaply but all of them placed in a natural setting which complemented them completely. Roberto does a night time tour for the guests to explain the origins of the art and the hotel. Very informative and seeing the statues etc floodlit is incredible.
The staff were extremely nice and the food was plentiful and delicious. The cleaning staff drove round on little tricycles which was quaint to see. At approximately 214 euros a night I doubt if I will visit this hotel again but it was truly a wonderful experience. Unfortunately day visitors are not allowed in so to see this wonderful place your would need to spend at least one night there. It definitely is worth a visit!
