We saw an item on our local BBC TV News on the first day of this Festival and decided that we would like to go up and see it. The Display was inspired by the Exhibition of the Lindisfarne Gospels and was themed around the 'Saints of The North'. In all there were about 60 displays throughout the Cathedral and this produced a wonderful burst of colour in contrast to the rich stone of the structure. The display was only open for six days as it started the day before St.Aidan's day and ended on the Feast of St.Cuthbert. The displays were the work of members of the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies from many towns around County Durham and the North East. These members are to be congratulated for what was a truly magnificent collection of individual displays. The only shame is that more people could not see the displays as, being comprised of freshly cut flowers, the Festival was necessarily short.
