One of my favourite trips during our stay in Weymouth was the Durdle Door Cruise. The trip was a great experience in an inflatable boat – similar to a lifeboat.
It takes about an hour and 15 minutes to cover over 20 miles of stunning Jurassic coastline. This includes a close up of the famous Durdle Door landmark or, as the locals call it, “The Dorset Drining Dragon”. You only get this unique view from the sea. There’s also an opportunity to see dolphins in their natural habitat.
The boats that are owned by www.weymouthbayribcharter.co.uk leave the quayside near the bridge. It cost us £30 each but we found that this was well worth the price. You have to wear something warm even on a fine day as it gets colder out at sea. The crew are very helpful, providing you with a lifejacket and you sit astride a seat. As you cruise there is a commentary from time to time, but also some lovely classical music, which seems to complement the outstanding scenery. The boat slows down so you can take photos to provide some memories to take home.
The trip was worth every penny – thoroughly enjoyable!
