I was in Lambeth today and stopped by “Dishington’s Tea Room”:http://www.dishingtons.com for lunch. It is in an old house on the corner of Main Street and South Routledge Road. The restaurant is L-shaped with a deep step from one room down into the room that goes around the corner. Also in the house is a women’s clothing store which faces Main Street. Dishington’s actually faces South Routledge Road. There is a teapot border on the walls and local art for sale on the walls.
The menu is small as the tearoom is only open for lunch and dessert. This year they have started opening on Mondays so they are now open six days a week from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and closed on Sundays. Everything being served looked delicious and no one left anything on their plates. I saw sweet potato soup, toasted turkey wraps, and turkey sandwiches go by. I was tempted to try a dessert – all of which are made in house. The options were carrot cake, rhubarb custard pie or scones. However, after my lunch of Mediterranean quiche and salad, I did not have room; perhaps another time. I wasn’t sure how the salad would taste with pineapple and mandarin orange slices on lettuce with toasted coconut and slivered almonds, but it was very nice and refreshing, even though the fruit was tinned. The quiche was very tasty with spinach, sun dried tomatoes, basil and feta.
They do take reservations but I was able to get a table with no trouble without one.
