An old building at the back of Grand Central station (what was New Street Station), the Comfort Hotel is what I would class as “cheap and cheerful” – clean, tidy, convenient and great price of £40 a double room for one person. The main selling point is, of course, the location as you can walk straight out of the hotel into the new Grand Central station and shopping centre ( south entrance from station).
Comfort Hotels are a chain so at least you know there is a basic standard they have to comply with. It was easy to sign in (booked through booking.com) and friendly helpful staff. No restaurant but there is a bar and you can take a drink up to your room from there. It is noisy from the road if room is on the front, but it is good budget hotel that I would use again.
