Chester Zoo is well worth a visit, even if like me, you have no children. We are annual members and visit once a fortnight, each time choosing a specific area to see. The zoo has 11000 animals, and covers 110 acres, so you would be well advised to wear your walking shoes. It's worth noting that you can hire a motorised scooter to get around if you are disabled. There are plenty of zoo babies at the moment, including tigers (pictured). The zoo is renowned for its conservation programme as well as its field conservation projects. Food and drink is reasonably priced, but if you take sandwiches, be warned that the ducks will befriend you as you sit at your picnic bench and will guilt trip you into sharing a bite! Lots of free parking, plus if you come on the train, you can get a park and ride bus to the Zoo.
