The Chainbridge Hotel had the painters and decorators in when we stayed, there was lots of activity with refurbishment but it did not distract us from the brilliant location. The hotel was comfortable but that's not the reason to stay. The staff were pleasant, could not fault them. At the back of the hotel runs a canal, with a lovely walk along the tow path into LLangollen, where the horse drawn barges run. The only downside is watch your step, lots of dogs being walked with irresponsible owners. Walking along the canal in the opposite direction are Horseshoe Falls, just a 2 minute walk. Our purpose of the stay was to see the highest aqueduct in the country, which we went over on a barge, with hindsight we should have walked over (people working on the barge trip were very nice though). Eating in the hotel restaurant is lovely as the river rapids run directly below, it's enjoyable watching the canoes battling the noisy water and it is really noisy but also relaxing. The steam railway line is opposite the hotel, with a station so once you have arrived there is no need to use the car again until you reluctantly have to go home.
