We spent a week at The McDonald Dona Lola resort. Very well run, UK tv channels, very clean and well maintained apartments but maybe a little dated. Ideally placed to get frequent and reliable local buses to Marbella, Fenguirola and Malaga or beyond so if you have no car it’s not a problem. A short walk takes you to supermarkets and good restaurants. There is a boardwalk in one direction along the shore to La Cala which has some interesting shops, restaurants and a lovely beach. The boardwalk will shortly be extended to meet up with that already there in the other direction. A highlight for us was a trip to Fenguirola zoo, a smallish zoo with endangered species and no cages. Another excellent day was an organised trip to Tangiers by fast ferry. What an eye opener and step back in time! The souk and restaurant experience is a must do but keep your eyes peeled as there are hagglers and pickpockets galore but are all part of the fun.
We packed a lot into our week but equally would be a great place to just relax as there is a small sandy beach that is quite accessible. Just wonderful to have daily sunshine in March away from the grey, rain and snow of the U.K. and the 2.5 hour flights are very reasonable to Malaga. Go on, consider Calahonda, you shouldn’t be disappointed!
