Yet another of my ‘surprise finds’, this café sits on Thurso Harbour. I’d finished my tour of the town, visited the esplanade and was making my way back to the car.
It looked easier to follow the river bank, rather than go back into the town itself. Almost back at the car park, with the sun beating down, some refreshments seemed a good idea.
The café was busy, packed with people eating lunch so I made my way to the counter and ordered water & a light snack to eat at the outside tables. It took a while for my food to arrive but this was hardly surprising considering how busy they were.
As I waited, the scene of the river changed. The sea mist started to gently waft up river and the little boats played hide-and-seek on their moorings.
Food was good and the staff were friendly, welcoming their regular customers by name. I didn’t get a good look at the inside of the café because it was so busy. Looking up their website before writing this review, I discover they also do ‘surf hire’, the river having one of the ‘best waves’ in Europe.
‘Thurso Lighthouse Harbour Fellowship’ meets at the café twice a week.
Open 7 days, their menu & hours are on the website.”:http://www.cafetempest.co.uk/
