Just stopped in at Cafe Français for a latte and cinnamon roll after the first outside Farmer’s Market of this season this morning and it was delightful. The roll was the most delicate Brioche, buttery and light and not too sweet, with enough sauce and nuts it required a knife and fork to eat it.
This cafe is at the west end of a strip mall on Victoria Avenue East – an unlikely location for this French patisserie. The interior is bright and light with high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows on two sides at it is the end of the building. It is a small place with seating for about 20 customers, but they do a brisk take-out trade as well. The only other time I have been here was to pick up a latte when running errands. I know I will be back to try one of their quiches or omelets – I saw a few this morning and they looked enticing – or a Croque Monsieur. The day’s menu is on the chalkboard as you enter.
The service is friendly and prompt and I wanted to bring home the sink in the washroom.
